To estimate the most used service in the remaining countries on the map, I analyzed the most downloaded apps in the last 3 months of 2017, again thanks to the AppAnnie tools , compared with other sources. The result is this global social app map that shows the most used social and instant messaging application for each country analyzed. The biggest surprise is that Facebook, the main social destination if we consider web browsing, gives way to other services if we evaluate only their use via apps. The social network with the most active users in the world (2.1 billion) is the leader among applications in only 4 countries: United States, France, Sweden and Vietnam. The main contenders for use via the app are WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, which are still part of Zuckerberg's ecosystem.
WhatsApp, acquired in 2014 and which has 1.5 billion active Canada Phone Number users, conquers 32 countries. It shows its strength in Italy, Germany, UK, Spain, Russia, but also in the territories of Latin America, India and Saudi Arabia. Facebook Messenger, a spin-off of the famous social network which boasts 1.3 billion users, wins in 17 countries including Canada, Australia and some Eastern European countries. At the current growth rate, in the next two years, it is plausible to imagine WhatsApp overtaking Facebook in terms of active users. But there are also populations that resist Western influence and prefer services more in line with their national culture. Line , a South Korean instant messaging application with over 200 million active users, is the favorite means of communication and entertainment (allows the purchase of stickers and games) in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.
In recent years it has become a real platform, which makes money by selling games and stickers, as well as offering business profiles through which companies can send direct messages to their followers (for a fee). In China WeChat predominates , from the giant Tencent which also owns the social network QZone, with 980 million monthly users. WeChat is characterized by being an innovative platform that offers text, audio and video messaging, but also the possibility of making payments for various Chinese public and private services. Completing the panorama is Viber , owned by Rakuten which also produces the Kobo e-book reader, preferred in Ukraine and Croatia and KakaoTalk in South Korea.
